Honda Cooperative Mobility Ecosystem Unveiled at CES 2017

Honda Cooperative Mobility Ecosystem
More Than Just a Car; An Entire Ecosystem

The Honda Cooperative Mobility Ecosystem, a concept combining robotics, artificial intelligence, and big data, was unveiled early this month at CES 2017, a global tradeshow for consumer electronics and technology.

The Honda Cooperative Mobility Ecosystem concept aims to revolutionize mobility by creating a network of cars that communicate with each other and the infrastructure to control traffic congestion and eliminate traffic accidents.

Honda aims to increase driver productivity and enjoyment by lessening their load and introducing new entertainment features, and the autonomous vehicles will even provide extra services when not in use. Inspired by this concept, Honda developed the NeuV, an autonomous mini-vehicle with an artificial intelligence “emotion engine” and personal assistant.

Honda also introduced Honda Riding Assistant, a motorcycle that uses robotics technology to maintain balance. CES attendees could test out Honda robotics technologies at their exhibit by test-driving the UNI-CUB, Honda’s self-balancing personal mobility device.

Honda is also teaming up with Visa and DreamWorks Animation for future projects, as well as opening up new startups through its Developer Studio and Honda Xcelerator open innovation programs. Honda has also established a website where companies can participate in Honda’s AI and robotics initiatives, accelerating their open innovation philosophy.

Here at Bill Walsh Honda, we’re excited to see all of the exciting new technology the future holds! We can’t wait to see the Honda Technology roaming around Ottawa, IL.

All-New 2017 Honda Ridgeline at NAIAS Wins “North American Truck of the Year” Award

Praise is buzzing this month for the new, ground-breaking 2017 Honda Ridgeline at NAIAS in Detroit. Completely redesigned and reengineered, the Ridgeline has been named the 2017 North American Truck of the Year (NATOTY).

Since the start of June last year, Honda’s prized truck is packed with numerous industry-exclusive and available features that make it a stand-out in its class. These include, but are not limited to, unibody construction, In-Bed Trunk®, a scratch- and dent-resistant truck bed and the world’s first Truck Bed Audio System. Move over Chevy and Ford!

Our Ridgeline is also the first and only pickup truck to achieve a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), due to available features such as the front crash prevention system and LED headlights. This follows up on the previous year when Honda won the honor for its Civic, which won the North American Car of the Year in 2016.

Winning this award shows the consistency of the Ridgeline. The pickup won the award back in 2006, so it’s no surprise to see history repeat itself.

“This award is a prized validation of the innovations and advantages the Ridgeline offers midsize pickup truck customers and a great recognition of the American development team’s work,” said John Mendel, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “This is a terrific way to kick off 2017, and we’re looking forward to sharing more innovative Honda products in the year ahead.”

The NATOTY award is handed out by a group of 50 members of the North American automotive media and is unique in and of itself because it is not tied to a single publication, radio or television station.

The Ridgeline is just one vehicle in Honda’s expanded lineup of innovative light-truck model, including the HR-V crossover, CR-V, Pilot and the new 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan. This announcement comes at a strong point in time for Honda. Their light-truck sales were at an all-time high of 661,188 units in 2016 – a 7% increase from 2015.

See the Hip Hop Nutcracker This Christmas

As we move further and further into the holiday season, the list of holiday events grows longer and longer. However, you can only watch ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ and ‘Elf’ so many times before you start looking for something different to try. Luckily, the Rosemont Theater in Chicago has just the show for you. Come out on Friday, December 09, 2016 at 7:30 pm to see the Hip Hop Nutcracker. Here is everything that you need to know.

The Nutcracker

For those who have not seen The Nutcracker, it is a ballet that was first performed in St. Petersburg all the way back in 1892. Although the play wasn’t generally well-received at first, it began growing in popularity in the 1960s, and it is now one of the most popular plays (especially holiday plays) in the theater today. It is most famous for its score, which was written by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky.

The Hip-Hop Nutcracker

The hip-hop version is a mash-up that was designed for the entire family. The classic score by Tchaikovsky was re-imagined with highly entertaining hip-hop choreography. There will be a dozen talented hip-hop dancers on stage, along with a DJ and an electric violin.

For those looking to experience something a little bit different this Christmas season, consider attending the hip-hop version of The Nutcracker!

Tips for Driving in Bad Weather: The Basics

driving in bad weather

Bad weather is right around the corner, especially as the holidays approach. If you encounter rain, snow, ice, or sleet, it’s always a good idea to be prepared. Read on to learn more about these inclement-weather driving tips.

According to AAA, one of the most important things to remember is to get enough sleep before driving. The average adult needs roughly 7 to 9 hours of sleep in order to function properly. Any less can seriously affect your reaction time when behind the wheel, so be sure to pull over if you feel fatigued. It’s also important to plan trips when you know you will be awake. If you are heading home for the holidays, for instance, avoid driving when you would normally be sleeping.

Next, don’t run your car in an enclosed area. Despite advanced emission control technologies, vehicle fumes are still powerful enough to asphyxiate the average adult. If you plan on warming up your car, be sure to pull your vehicle to a well-ventilated area.

Finally, don’t use cruise control in bad weather. While it might be easy to set the cruise and forget about driving for a while, this can lead to dangerous situations when the road is wet or covered in ice. Cruise control can’t react to slippery surfaces, an important reason to stay alert and connected to the pedal when driving in bad weather.

Honda S2000 Roadster Could be Built to Celebrate Honda’s 70th Anniversary

Honda S2000 roadster

Rumor has it that Honda plans to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2018 with the rebirth of the Honda S2000 roadster. The first S2000 roadster was launched in 1998 for Honda’s 50th anniversary, so it’s a popular idea among enthusiasts.

Honda may also produce a commemorative car and a motorcycle for the anniversary as well. A source at Car and Driver says the car will be similar in size to the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but “the Honda will have a lot more power.”

Those in the know may note that Honda doesn’t have a current platform for a roadster, but it also didn’t have one for its NSX sports car or the mini roadster S660 before their debut, so a new roadster can’t be ruled out.

The Acura Precision Concept, a hybrid with rear-wheel drive, was also introduced at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, which could lead into the anniversary model. The 2018 S2000 will reportedly have a Civic Type R 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with horsepower at 306.

In May of this year, Honda had already started using manufacturing facilities in Columbus, Ohio, for research and development. The NSX sports car is also produced in Honda’s Ohio facilities.

How to change a tire

  1. Pull over safely

Make sure that wherever you pull off, it’s clear and flat. If you’re on the highway, it’s best to take the next exit instead of pull over on the highway. And be sure to put your hazards on!

  1. Loosen the lug nuts

Use a wrench to loosen each lug nut one by one. Don’t take them off yet.

How to change a tire

  1. Jack your car up off the ground

Use a jack to lift your car off the ground until it’s about six inches up.

  1. Remove lug nuts & tire

Remove all the lug nuts and keep them somewhere where you won’t lose them. Then, pull the tire straight off the car.

How to change a tire

  1. Replace tire

Install your spare tire on and replace all the lug nuts, tightening them one at a time.
